Meals for students and families
Students eat the meal at lunchtime by the canteen.
Did you know that it only costs 10¢ in Ghana for one meal of rice and beans? That means the next time you pay $2.95 for a tall mocha latte from Starbucks, you could have provided lunch for an entire classroom of nearly 30 students that same day.
Too often students come to school hungry. It’s impossible for a child to survive, let alone learn, without at least one meal a day. Every $1 you donate means a student can have two full meals each day for an entire school week. That’s the perfect start to getting kids excited to learn and improve their community. Malnutrition is a problem around the world, but with your help, it’s so easy to prevent at a place like the Manye Foundation.
We are working to offer two nutritious meals each day for all students. Not only does this provide basic nutrituion, we know from studies that a good breakfast and lunch help a student’s mind learn best. Although a seemingly simple goal, it requires significant resources and planning to ensure the program actually helps those who need it most without causing undesired effects in the community.
Handouts of food are not our goal, but rather a means of increasing the value of education, helping families ensure children are well nourished, and encouraging parents to send all their children to school everyday. We also hope to offer nutritious meals as a way to promote parent involvement in education. To build a stronger relationship with parents and to encourage families to come to school programs to further their education, we hope to offer meals as a meaningful and practical benefit.
Make school meals a reality for all our children by contributing to Manye’s general services.
